Analytical report (pathogenicity and contagiousness of a new coronavirus infection (additional materials to the OBJECTION regarding the arguments of the collective administrative claim)

Coronavirus SARS-CoV-2 (Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2) is an infectious agent of an acute respiratory disease COVID-19.

SARS-CoV-2 was first found in Wuhan, China as a result of an outbreak of a respiratory disease of unknown etiology on December 12, 2019 [1] and began spreading rapidly in China. By January 31, 2020, the disease cases were found already in 19 countries, their number exceeded 9 thousand [2]. Then the World Health Organization (WHO) declared the epidemiological situation concerning COVID-19 to be a public health emergency of international concern, and on March 11, 2020 – a pandemic [3].

High contagiousness of SARS-CoV-2 is directly related to its structural-biological particularities. The coronavirus is evolutionary plastic, owing to the large genome size, presence of polymerase with high frequency of replication errors, particularities of recombination and life cycle which provides the appearance of new, more contagious variants of SARS-CoV-2 [4-7]. British (B.1.17), South African (B.1.351) and Brazilian (P.1) variants are of special concern [8]. Cases of SARS-CoV-2 re-infection are described [9].

New coronavirus SARS-CoV-2 has the greatest reproduction index R0 (2.5) compared to the severe acute respiratory syndrome virus SARS-CoV (2.4) causing the outbreak of atypical pneumonia in 2002-2003, Spanish flu virus (type A serotype H1N1) causing influenza pandemic in 2009 (1,7) [10]. By the number of deaths, as of April 2021, COVID-19 is already more than twice the size of the Spanish flu pandemic: 2.7 million versus 1.2 million. [10,11].

Clinical manifestations of infection SARS-CoV-2 are variable and involve various organ systems.
