What do people usually imagine when they hear the word "Mexico"?

Men in ponchos and wide – brimmed hats, chases, shootouts, crossings across the border-all that are militants and westerns.

Or the unreal life of soap operas.

Meanwhile, Mexico is a country with an interesting history, a rich cultural heritage, a complex and ambiguous developing economy and politics; with its own special traditions.

I chose this wonderful country for my work in order to get to know it better and change the established stereotypes of others.

Mexico (Spanish México), the official name of the United Mexican States — a state in North America, bordering on the North with the United States, in the South-East — with Belize and Guatemala, in the North-West is washed by the waters of the Gulf of California and the Pacific ocean, in the East — the waters of the Gulf of Mexico and the Caribbean sea.

Mexico is a Federal Republic. The current Constitution was adopted on 5 February 1917. The head of state and government, the President, who appoints senior civil servants, state governors and the Federal district, addresses all important domestic and foreign policy issues and is the commander – in-chief of the armed forces.Each state has its own Constitution and unicameral Congress (Legislative Assembly), Executive bodies headed by a Governor, and courts.

Mexico is one of the largest States in Latin America. Its territory is 1958,2 thousand square kilometers. Mexico ranks fifth among the countries of the Western hemisphere. Mexico is the northernmost of the Latin American countries and the most populous of the Spanish-speaking countries.

The country is washed by the Pacific and Atlantic oceans. In the North the country borders with the USA, in the Southeast – with Belize and Guatemala.

Mexico is a mountainous country, more than 50% of its territory is located above 1000 meters above sea level. The only plain – the Yucatan Peninsula, narrow lowlands stretch along the ocean coasts. The ranges of the Mexican plateau, the Sierra Madre and the Transverse Volcanic Sierra with many active volcanoes, including the highest point of the country - Orizaba (5700 m), popocatépetl (5452 m). Volcanic activity is quite high, and frequent earthquakes.
