Mind the Low Rise in general questions with indirect speech.

Ex. 5. Intone:

1) Can I ask you where it is?

2) May I tell you how to do it?

3) Will you say when he comes, Lily?

4) Will you forgive me for what I’ve done, Paul?

5) By the way, do you know how long he will stay with us?

6) In fact, is he sure of what he says?

 

Mind that “I wonder” may be a parenthesis (IWO) and a phrase, introducing the indirect speech (DWO).

Ex. 6. Intone:

1) I wonder, where are you?

2) I wonder where you are.

3) I wonder, what is the matter with him?

4) I wonder what the matter with him is.

5) I wonder, are you a student now, Tom?

6) I wonder if you are a student now, Tom.
