Ra Uru Hu (Post 98) The 2nd Gate and the Cross of the Sphinx

We’re going to begin with the 2nd gate. We’re going to begin with The Receptive. We’re going to begin with one of the fundamental gates of Human Design. And it is so because this is the place where the magnetic monopole resides. You can see this in the name of the juxtaposition cross that being the Juxtaposition Cross of the Driver. The 2nd gate we begin with the Sphinx. When you begin with the Sphinx what you are talking about is something that comes into life to be a direction force. That’s what being a Sphinx is. Being a Sphinx is somebody that comes into this life and basically they are a light pole at a street crossing. And not only do they go green and yellow and red, they have pointing arrows. And this is what they're all about. Some of the most interesting Sphinxes that I have met are ones that have undefined G centers. They give everybody else direction and they’re lost. And they can’t understand why they’re lost and yet everybody comes to them and finds direction.

When you're dealing with somebody who comes in with their personality Sun in the 2nd gate, direction is everything for them in this life. But more than that, to understand that these people come into the world to work. It’s very important to see that. Everything about the 2/14 is that the 14th gate has a deep capacity to energize a direction of work. Now, obviously it is the Generator that provides the power for that. The thing to understand about the 2nd gate is that the 2nd gate is always pointing us in a direction in which our energy can be transformed into material. We live in a material world. It is very nice to come in the Quarter of Civilization and your brain is humming. But thank goodness you have four other arms of your cross, because otherwise you couldn’t live in the world. This is the concretization of life. This is bringing everything into form. And at the very, very beginning of the way in which this Sphinx drives us in terms of Civilization is that Civilization is based on the transformation of direction into material gain.

When you look at the earliest successful societies, the way in which they demonstrated their success was that they built enormous monuments. And enormous monuments that took the investment of huge amounts of energy—the pyramids, whatever you want to look at. And it’s something very important to understand that this is a 2nd gate principle. Look at our world. You’re in an emerging country, and what do you do. You spend $1 billion building the tallest building in the world. Put up your monument, this huge monument to the success of your material direction. There is some guy in Africa who decided that he was going to build the biggest mosque in the world. They had a laser beam that pointed all the way to Mecca. Bigger and bigger and bigger and bigger, this is what it’s all about. This is the 2nd gate. You don't build a civilization by carrying tents on your back.

So, the first thing about the Cross of the Sphinx is that when you're dealing with a 2nd gate Sphinx, what they can really point you at is a material direction. Most people think because the open G center is about love and direction, that they get carried away with the love part. Well, that's Vessel stuff. When you’re dealing with the Sphinx you’re just dealing with direction, just direction. And this is material direction. So everything is being pointed toward metamorphosis in the throat. Everything is pointed towards the pressure of transforming what is energy and that includes our thought processes, transforming them and concretizing them materially.

If you are going to look for the perfect guide, when you’re like seven years old, you reach your first Saturn quarter, and there's somebody who's a 2 in your life that says, plastics. Forty years later you’ve got it. There is a material direction for everyone where their ability to filter energy is transformed into the appropriate material. When I talk about people living out their mythology, basically what I'm talking about is materialize it. We all have the mythological potential, but you have to materialize your mythology, which means you have to fill out the detail. It’s like what a great actor does with a role. No matter how good the script is, if the actor doesn't bringing depth to that performance, it doesn't matter that the words are good that comes out of the actor’s mouth.

It’s one of the things about the materialization of the form principal is that the articulation of your strategy—why you think I tell Generators to concentrate on this sound of their sacral. This is materializing it. It is taking it out of the abstract and it’s concretizing it in the world. The other thing is the 2nd gate is deeply, deeply, deeply mutative. It’s mutated. And so it's very important to understand this deep mutative quality.

(Post 99) Gate 23 in the Quarter of Civilization

I think of the 23 in the same way as I think of the 62 which were also going to look at and 56 which were also going to look at because they’re all in the throat. These are the magical metamorphic gates for me. They’re magical because they have what appears to be an impossible task to be able to transform conceptualization into concretization. In other words, to take an opinion, an insight or an idea and turn it into words, and not only turn it into words, but turn it into language that is transferable and understandable to the other. This is an incredible leap and it is at the heart of what I'm trying to point you towards in understanding the nature of this Quarter of Civilization. Because there's 11 throat gates amongst the 16 hexagrams please recognize that everything they were really looking at is this key of understanding that our whole purpose is the transformation of energy into matter, that’s our whole purpose. It’s why we breathe in oxygen; it’s our whole purpose. We’re always in the building process. We’re building up the health of ourselves all the time, were building it up. It’s just building. It’s concretizing all the time, concretizing.

So, when you're looking at the 23rd gate, the 23rd gate does something very odd. The 43rd gate is a gate that is purely acoustic. Insight is very funny because you could call it in-hearing, instead of insight, because that’s what it is. It’s in-hearing. It is an inner acoustic that has no sound but is audible. In other words, if it's inside your head you hear it. But it's not a sound at all. It’s just imagined as a sound. It’s magic, after all.

The moment you go from the 43 to the 23 all of a sudden, I know, I am one, all of a sudden it becomes words. I don’t know how they do that. This is like translation; I don’t know they do that. How you hear coming in one ear and you blow it out the other end. I don’t know how they do that. It’s a miracle. It’s the most incredible thing about the metamorphic process, and it is the magic of our process.

In order for the Maya to exist we have to be able to do three things. We have to be able to detail the maya and convince you that it’s still going to be here tomorrow, because it isn’t here tomorrow. Now, that’s quite something to grasp. It’s like people go on vacation and they leave their dog. Dog doesn't know you're going on vacation, it can’t grasp that. It can't grasp that tomorrow, no way. So, the first way to maintain the maya is detail. And the detail is the maya is going to be here tomorrow. The second way to maintain the maya is to pretend that it's always existed. You know, this is the 56th gate. You pretend that there is history, you pretend that there's a past. Hey, folks it's gone, what past. It's only the fact that we keep on saying there was one. We keep on saying “yesterday.” As long as we keep on saying “yesterday” and we really believe that yesterday is something that happened, yesterday happened. The maya is very tricky.

And when you get to the middle of this and you get to the 23rd gate, the 23rd gate says you; let me explain how deep this maya really is. It’s so deep, let me explain to you how this maya works. If you're good you go to heaven, if you’re bad you go to hell. And the moment you put that in the maya they’re people nodding there head. Hey, I hear that if you're good you go to heaven and if you’re bad you go to hell. And then you get people who tell you stories from the past—he went to hell. And you think, gee, they’ve gone to hell in the past, they’re probably going to hell in the future.

Oh, it’s wonderful what the maya is. And of course, when you're dealing with the 23rd gate you’re dealing with a freak show; genius to freak; but please start with the freak. Knowing in the maya is not something substantiated by the collective. That's why it has to be explaining. So the collective can get it. And the only way that the maya grows is through the mutative quality of the 23rd gate. The maya is expressed in its detail, it’s remembered, but the growth of the maya is rooted in the 23rd gate, because the 23rd gate explains new things about the maya all the time. We make it up all the time, every moment of every day were making up the maya and concretizing it into something solid, all the time, every day.

I'm a great fan of Dirac. He was brilliant. He was the first guy that thought up the neutrino. How brilliant. He thought it up. And then we discover that there's 3 trillion of them a second with mass that is going through everything all the time. What a wonderful transference. From the concept, the imagination, suddenly it's there in the maya. If Dirac had never told us, it’s one of those things to understand about the maya.

(Post 100) We are a Binary Consciousness

We are a binary consciousness. At any level that you want to understand what it is to be you, what it is to be a nine-centered being, it begins with the simple. It begins with understanding we are a binary consciousness. We have a Design consciousness that runs as this vehicle. The vehicle is the life. It is the vehicle that provides us with the platform for everything we're going to experience in this life. It gives us our brain, our mobility and all the things that go with it, all the sensory equipment, all the tools, everything; it is the life. It is what we ride in as Personality. As Personality we are a passenger. We come in after the life has been established. We come in after the life architecture has been built. We are left behind when the vehicle dies.

We are the passenger. And as long as we are living in a distorted state in which we are giving the mind authority to run our lives, we are never going to get to embrace the beauty of what it is in our own unique potential to filter the consciousness field, what it means to live through your outer authority, the investigator whose outer authority is rooted in their correctness, in their correct motivation, in a correct perspective, being in the right place, nurturing themselves correctly, operating correctly. Then the nuance of the value of what this particular investigator is is going to come to the surface, the way in which their role is finally going to be played out.

(Post 101) Gate 35

I often talk about the experiential way as crossing a river There are certain beings on this cross and you take them to a river and there's a bridge going across the river and they say, isn’t there other way? And you say, what you mean another way, there’s a bridge here. No, I don’t want to get across this way, there must be another way. How did they used to get across here before there was a bridge? It’s one of the things to understand that it’s inherent in the 35. In the very, very first courses I ever gave where I talked about this stream from the 41 to the 35 I used the same metaphor. I used to say the 45 shows you when the tank is empty and the 35 shows you when the tank is full, if you had a fuel gage.

It’s one of things to recognize about the 35 is that the moment that the tank is full it starts to empty out, immediately, and you want to fill it up again. You just do, because it's not satisfied. How long does it take you to get horny after an orgasm? It’s not like that orgasm is the end of your life. For some people it could be, but nonetheless, it’s like, well, yes, yes, and then it’s gone. And then there is this, well, there must be another way, there must be more. We have to find something that is satisfying.

The 16th gate is a gate of identification but the 35th gate is the gate of expectation. And if there is anything that marks the human experiential way better, this is the word: expectation. Human beings are greyhounds on a track chasing a mechanical bunny. This is us. I want that bunny, I want that bunny and away we go. The only way that you find purpose in this life is that you chase the bunny. If you don't chase the bunny other people will kill you. Well, it’s true. And you can see that in humanity. We could change the name bunny to whenever, we could—chase after your whenever, your maturity, your career, whatever it's going to be. We’re just out there just racing along.

And the whole thing about expectation, the cruelty of expectation is that the moment that you have it it’s gone. And you’re there going, ah, I did all this work to get across the river, now what do I do? Go back? You ever see that in those movies of prisoners in the south in the States and they have them on the rock pile and you get them to move all these rocks to one side of a hill. You see these prisoners struggling and sweating and they get all the rocks over to one side and they wake up the next morning and figure they’re going to have something different to do. No, move the rocks back.

This is what it is to be caught on the experiential way. Nothing is ever satisfying for long. It’s one of the beautiful things about the existential consciousness that has snuck into the abstract collective in the 46/29. In the 46/29 you have this recognition that the greatness of the experiential way is based on complete and absolute existential absorption, because it is only afterwards that you can truly reflect, it’s only afterwards that you can really see. It’s never intended to be satisfying as an experience because it's the reflection that supposed to be satisfying.

And most people on the abstract plane think that it’s the orgasm that satisfying when in fact it's the memory. The memory is much more satisfying and the memory lasts a long time. And this is the whole reward of understanding what expectation is all about. It’s never about what you think you're going to get. It’s about the residue of what you get seen through a rearview mirror. And that rearview mirror is a distorted mirror and because it's a distorted mirror you can make anything you like. Ah, the beauty of the abstract way.

Now, the Cross of Consciousness people are very interesting human beings. They have fascinating minds. After all, they’re 63s-64s. But when you meet beings that are this cross, there is an enormous difference between the Sun in the 5 and the Sun in the 35, than the ones that have their Sun in the 63-64. If you’re born on this cross with your Sun in the 5 or the 35 you are able to find a natural balance for your abstract and logical mental system because you have distance from it. And they are sub-themes of your cross potential.

But the moment that you’re born with either your Sun in the 63 or the Sun of the 64, there is always a slant, and it is much more difficult to find the equilibrium. So, if you’re born on the 64 there is this abstract slant. If you’re born on the 63, there is this logical slant. Here we have the 35.

(Post 102) We are Diminished by the Lack of Outer Authority in the World

The personality crystal doesn't like to be in a body, if I could put it that way. I‘m anthropomorphizing it. It‘s deeply limiting. It's not like the design crystal. For the design crystal, this is its one moment. This is it. This is what its existence has been all about, to create this vehicle, to manage this vehicle in this one little vast cycle. But the personality crystal has been in and out, in and out, in and out. And everything about being inside the meat, inside the carne, it‘s a trap. The personality crystal knows it's a trap. It is choiceless and helpless in the back seat, no matter how much it screams.

And the fact is that its potential is to see far beyond the frame of the vehicle, it is a passenger. The driver watches the road, the gauges, and the wheel. The passenger is anywhere and everywhere looking forward, looking back, looking to the side, looking down, beyond, always looking beyond. This is what our passenger is all about, always looking beyond, the passenger that never, ever sees itself, the passenger that‘s always just looking out beyond the vehicle. It‘s its whole purpose.

If the vehicle is not in the right place, if you're not operating correctly so that vehicle is not aligned correctly, then the options for the passenger become limited, become, in most cases, absolutely dysfunctional. And the point of it all is that we may be all driving, those of us in some variable, driving together down the same road, but all the passengers are looking this way and that way. And what they see, it's like being on the train, you know that experience of being on a train, you always wonder if you‘re on the right side to see the nicest view, and you can‘t have it all. This is us. And we are diminished by the lack of outer authority in the world, we are diminished by it. All we have is homogenized stuff. And we have homogenized consciousness that has emerged out of beings that are not in the right place, who do not have the right perspective.

(Post 103) We are All Designed to Connect

When we're talking about connection, when Asi and I were working on the development of MMI, I really wanted a different name for this kind of software and “connection” is really what it's all about. Everything about partnership—and by the way, I'm going to look at different kinds of partnerships, siblings and parents and children. Today we're going to begin with some star-crossed strange lovers, but nonetheless we'll take a look at all the examples.

I want you to see that the thematics, regardless of what appears to be the dilemma, whether this is the lover drama, or the mother/son, father/daughter, brother/ sister, sibling rivalry, whatever the drama happens to be, the themes are the same. They operate in the same way. It's just about connection. We are all designed to connect.

I think one of the real epiphanies for me in the very, very beginning, I mean at the very beginning, days after I received the knowledge, was this sense of babies, little ones coming into the world and suddenly being able to see that the little ones coming into the world are just as powerful as the big ones who are going out. It was extraordinary to look under the skin, to break through the sky of the illusion of the vehicle to see this incredible dynamic and to recognize that this dynamic comes whole into the world with birth. It's not just the conditioning of the mother to the child, but the incredible conditioning of the child to the mother. How powerful these beings are.

Yet we look at the surface and see something else. One of my credos about being a good analyst is that what when somebody sits down beside you, see them in their crib. See them when they were a baby, understand what happened to their design when they were a baby and then you can understand the conditioning that transformed their life. And you can see where the power of their not-self is. You can see it immediately.

In order to be able to do any kind of partnership, you have to be able to truly grasp the charts and you have to be able to understand what the deep conditioning of that chart is. Remember something about all connection: All connection operates through a genetic receptor system. We are open in certain ways. And it doesn’t matter whether that openness is in relationship to a parent or a child or a relative or a worker, whatever the case may be, we all have these built in receptors.

(Post 104) The Design and Personality 5th Color

What is also interesting here is to think about the rootings of the 5th line in terms of the way in which Color operates in the Design and the Personality Color. On the Design side, when we’re talking about determination, the thing that is so interesting about the 5 is that it is deeply, deeply sensitive to acoustics—sound. So, it is something to see very clearly that seduction is something that carries with it a frequency quality, a very important frequency quality. The seduction is going to be in the frequency or not.

Remember that heretic can be burned at the stake. The seduction, if it falls apart, if the seduction is not substantiated, then the heretic burns at the stake. It’s so interesting that the heretic has this, like me with my voice, and you know that about my voice, this is this frequency thing. This is the seductive quality that is there in the 5th line. It’s in its roots. And of course, at the same time that seduction can be attractive and stimulating, it can also really upset people.

So, on one side you have a determination that says these beings have built into their seduction a unique frequency. It’s the frequency that universalizes. And on the other side, I love it when people find out that they're a 5th Color Personality and they gulp. Human Design is nothing but keynotes. There are all kinds of keynotes. And there are some that one can understand people being disturbed by, I guess. Words have value in the homogenized world.

(Post 105) The Dilemma of Type

But anyway, welcome to all of you. Today I want to begin with a look at one of the most basic things about the way in which we meet each other. Obviously, that has to do with the basis of Design which is Type. I think that in most cases, most connections at the very beginning—because I really want to see it within the context of any kind of one-on-one with anyone—that within that context, Type is first and foremost the thing that can be a dilemma.

We already have a situation where you have approximately 68% of the human population are Generators. Then you have the other 32% who are non-Generator, regardless of what type of configuration you look at—the Manifestor, the Projector or the Reflector. There is an enormous difference. I cannot stress the large gigantic capitalization of enormous; there is an enormous difference between Types. It's just enormous.

The deeper I go in my process in the knowledge of Human Design, the longer my experience after going through this entire Nodal cycle, the thing that strikes me so clearly over and over and over again is how different Types are from each other. The longer I've had to settle into what it is to be me, which is an Ego Manifestor, how clear it is that anyone who is not an Ego Manifestor is an alien. It's just clear to me. They didn't get off the same bundle. We're not related. It's almost a difference as vast as gender. It's huge.

I think that my relationship to it, or to see it in that way is rooted in how long I've been away from being homogenized. It's so clear to me that the closer you come to your own nature, the more you realize how differently everyone else functions. I look at the Generator world and I slowly wag my head. It's like wow, how do they do that, how do they function like that? How is it possible to have that thing that is always pounding away inside of them? If you just breathe in Generator when you're not a Generator, it's like wow, what is that and how do they do that?

The fact is, despite the fact that I'm somebody who is non-Sacral, Projectors for me are as alien as Generators. I'm an energy Type and they're not. And the difference between energy Types and non-energy Types is enormous. Enormous is a big word. It's just huge. I really want you to consider at all times the fact that we're in this deep imprint and there is this huge homogenization going on through the receptors we have. Obviously we have an enormous number of receptors in everyone's design.

(Post 106) Individual Human Rights

The revolution of Human Design is the introduction of individual Authority. That is, individual human rights. I'm not talking about social human rights. I'm talking about individual human rights. The individual human right is to be your own authority in this life. Everyone has the capacity to be able to be in charge of their lives. Everything about this knowledge is that no matter where you look, whether you're looking at connections, Pentas, you name it, wherever you look, the characteristics within the combined auric configuration are things that are locks. They're not going to change. They're going to operate that way any time those two auras or more auras come together because that's simply the mechanics.

So you have to see that the approach to that connection is what will make the difference. It's this wonderful thing about seeing, seeing, seeing. It's really about seeing the same person you've been dealing with for years, that the two of you in operating correctly and beginning the experiment of operating correctly as yourself, you will see each other in a way and be able to see a relationship in a way that you've never seen it before. And yet, it's the same thing. It's the way it's perceived. It's the way you enter into it. It's the way in which you communicate within it, but all of it is going back to you.

(Post 107) Hexagram 53 development

We will look here at one of the collective format pressures, the abstract pressure in the 53rd gate. The thing to recognize about the experiential way, about the abstract way, as in the 41, we are dealing with an evolutionary process that is exclusively human. When we get over here to the format, it is something that influences every aspect of life. The channel 42/53 is called Maturation. One of the absolute laws so far in the universe is that everything that begins, ends. Everything that is going through a process, whether we want to see this as linear or cyclical, is what we call maturation: the step by step of going through something from beginning to end. This is life itself for all of us. It is punctuated by birth and death and there is nothing we can do to escape that. This is the maturation process.

The 53rd gate, Development, is the gate of beginnings. I often tell people that one of the nicest images to keep in mind about the 53rd gate is that this format not only belongs to humans but to all mammals. If you look at this gate in a mammal, it is the gate of freedom. Don't chain these creatures up. Don't fence them in because this gate of beginnings is the gate of freedom to begin an experience. Without that freedom, there is no evolutionary progress.

This need for freedom is deep inside of us. Its energy is cyclical and it is the pressure to complete. It is the gate of beginnings but the pressure is, "let's not just start it, let's go all the way and complete it so that we can mature in this process." Its fuel quality is active. It is full of stress. If you look at the root center, you can see that it is the adrenaline system, biologically. This is a stress hormone. If you look at all nine gates, there is only one where the word stress is there in its fuel dynamic. This is the most stressful of all gates.

Anyone who carries the 53rd gate and who can't begin something new is loaded with stress energy. These are the kind of people that get into a job and then they want to get out and want to do something new. If they can't get out to get something new, they build up enormous stress inside of them because they need to be free, like a dog that cannot be chained. If you chain them and don't allow them to begin something new, they become depressed.

Remember that each of these pressure gates out of the root center that are format pressures can all lead to depression. The depression here is when there is no freedom to begin a process so that one can complete it. The stress is there until the completion is there.

Above the lines it says: Development as a structured progression that is both steadfast and enduring. Everything that we know about the abstract process is how difficult it is for the abstract being to actually go through a process from beginning to end.

(Post 108) The 1st and 2nd Tones

When you're looking at the 1, you're looking at the primary fears for survival, the deep concerns that have to be there. But the 2 is so different. It’s not afraid. It’s not afraid in the way that the 1 is afraid. It’s not afraid of the world that it’s a part of. The 1 is always alert to the world even when it understands it. That immune system logic, once you've got it framed, hold onto the framing, don't let go of it, keep on being alert. But the 2 isn’t interested in that. It doesn't carry that kind of fear, not at all. And there is something interesting about it. That is, intelligence is breath. At least it seems that way when you look at the 2nd Tone. The 2nd Tone on the Design side is all about mouth breathing, as opposed to the 1st line which is about nose breathing. These are very different in the way in which they take in information.

One of the things that is so interesting about the 2nd Tone mouth breather is that they’re able to pick up information in the atmosphere in a way that is absolutely remarkable. The capacity for them to be able to pick up information through breath, literally through the breathing, through mouth breathing, it is literally mouth breathing. What is this intelligence? It is this readiness, I think it’s readiness. In all the years that I was doing readings when somebody was sitting beside me when I was doing personal readings, the very first thing I would say to them is: Are you ready?

(Post 109) Everyone has Receptors Open to Conditioning

Anything that's not activated, all of it that's hanging is all open to conditioning; it's all open to being impacted. Through all of that impacting there is this kind of mixing of the soup. I have a friend who is very enthralled with Human Design these days and he was telling me he's doing an exercise. His exercise is trying to figure out what people's designs are, just trying to figure it out by just talking to them, feeling them out in that sense. He's a Projector.

I said that's interesting, but I said it's going to be very, very difficult to tell a nonenergy Type from a Generator. How do you tell a non-energy Type from a Generator unless you really have a sensitivity to the way in which they work with energy, because of course, it's not there's. Most of the Projectors you will see going around doing their daily business have the quality of a kind of super Generator. The only difference is that the super Generator/Projector crawls home half dead from doing all of that stuff and the Generator is still buzzing and buzzing and buzzing and buzzing.

We're dealing with an enormous barrier that's in the way of being able to get to any deeper level in a relationship. What I mean by “deeper level” is the surface we've been talking about for the first two days. In other words, the first thing that's going to stand in the way is Type. I've always had a dilemma with partnership. My dilemma with partnership is that if you're absolutely rigid in the mechanics, then it's very clear that the basis upon which most human beings have their relationship is really just off and it doesn't work and it's not going to work. What you get from not-self relationships is the development of strategies and ways of trying to survive relationships. You build up myths and all kinds of things to give you the ability to tolerate what is, in fact, mechanically, relationships that are simply not intended to work.

(Post 110) The Challenge of the Evolution of Cognition

Of course, this is our dilemma. We have the possibility to be not-self, it is the way we are. This is our great challenge. The challenge ultimately of evolution of cognition is to get to this place where it is natural for us to be unnatural. We have this mind that emerges as this great distortion. And yet, it is part of the development of self-reflected consciousness that we go through such a stage. And we do live in a time where we have the tools to break from this.

One of the most important things that I teach is color transfer analysis, to be able to help somebody understand that the pressure on their personality to transfer is imposed on them by the world they live in. And only when the mind is freed from decision making, only when the mind can begin to release itself from the burden of decision making can it open itself up to the possibility of seeing, grasping.

We don’t really understand the power of the unique outer authority of mind and how that can only emerge through cognition. When you’re in transference, your personality, your personality profile has no access to your cognition underneath, its sensory focus, its quality, and its gift. And the gifts are there. Each and every one of us has this unique aspect that is the core of our cognitive potential. None of this is about providing the mind with what it needs in order to straighten out its life or make it better or fix its relationships or all this nonsense. That’s just putting mind to work again in running your life. No, it’s not about that. You’re here to be motivated to see as yourself—to see.

It’s only in that seeing that there is the possibility that you can ultimately share, empower, whatever language you want to use, share that outer authority with the other. Oh, it’s a very beautiful thing to watch; just to watch. You have to free the mind. You do that by following Strategy and Authority. In Strategy and Authority you begin the process of reconnecting to the consciousness field and to its purity and its beauty. These motivations are not intended to be negative terms. We experience them in the not-self only as negative forces, and they are not.

You can see that in the world around you. You can see that in nature. It’s so clear. There is this perfection of it-ness in nature. I love to talk about it-ness. It is something that each unique being discovers, you discover it. You can only discover it as yourself, to stand alone, because all things do and they don’t think about it. There is no choice. We are all in a vast program. And the depth of consciousness on this plane is absolutely fantastic. It’s so profound. The distortion does not come from nature. The distortion in the consciousness field is from us.

I have no illusions about the healing of the human aspect of the consciousness field, because after all it is our end game and nothing is to be resolved in that. But it also opens up this wonderful opportunity for some, to be able to live the duality and the specialness of what it is to be us. And at the same time, to be able to have a complete and fulfilled place within the whole, to be one with the world around you is to be one with its frequency. There is so much to be taken in from the world around you when you are correct, so much that you cannot take in or experience when you’re not correct.

You cannot in any way eliminate personality transference by wanting to. You can’t. It’s a long, arduous, dedicated process. It begins with the body. It begins with the dedication to the body, allowing the body’s intelligence to realign your geometry, to move you correctly, and in giving authority to your vehicle, to begin the healing of your mind. That’s only the beginning of healing mind. You have to give it something to do. Your mind is going to ramble on and on. The openness in you is always going to be there. It’s always going to be leaning on your mind to get you to be what you are not. The moment that you can free yourself from mental decision making, you can begin to focus your mind. And one of the most important things to focus your mind on is what your motivation is supposed to be. It is your connection to the consciousness field and to nature.

Those of us that have the opportunity to live correctly finally have completed our place in the natural chain, not by transcending it at all, but by embracing it. We can totally embrace the natural world and still display all the gifts of our self-reflected consciousness without interfering with our natural place. When you’re operating according to your vehicle, you’re like any creature on this plane, perfectly aligned to your geometry, your potential, your purpose.

It’s interesting to share that with you. I am so deeply aware of it.

(Post 111) The Consciousness Field is Not Human

But the consciousness field is not human. That’s perhaps the most interesting thing, it is not human at all. It is neither related to mind or to solar plexus, and it is very much oriented to primary survival. It is also the perfection of nature, because there is no interference, there is no mind to interfere. And of course, this is the great dilemma in humanity and the source of transference in human beings.

There is this assumption, and assumption is the mother of all screw-ups, there are these assumptions about what the consciousness field carries. We’re going to see. Because what the consciousness field carries is color and color is motivation. The vast majority of the consciousness field is a survival motivation in which living out the perfection of each color is a natural order. Our dilemma, our imperfection is that when we are not properly motivated that’s the moment when we lose our connection to our uniqueness and our mind remains part of the homogenized dilemma.

By the way, it isn’t that the goal of the program is not to have humans resonate to the consciousness field. I guess that’s a black joke. But the program is not about human beings resonating to their true color. It isn’t. The program survives by the not-self. The program survives through transference. And everything that we understand about color, we only understand within the context as human beings in terms of the values as transference.

You have somebody who is born with a 1st color personality. But they never get to live out the purity of that 1st color, the purity that is lived out by any 1st color cell, fish, bird; they don’t. So they will never know what it is. What they live out is the transference. And the 1, as in all harmonics, is going to transfer to the 4, and the 4 is need. But, humanity has a problem. And the problem is that the moment that transference takes place, the being over here is cut off from the cognition over here. So, it means when one goes from being a 1 where one could have access to the necessary cognition, that 1 lives out being a 4, gets cut off from that cognition and that 4 only carries with it a very, very crude motivation.

When you think of somebody being motivated by need, you don’t have a nice impression, do you? But that isn’t what the 4 is about. It isn’t. It’s only the value it has when there is no intelligence to guide it. This is the dilemma. Nature, the life force of the planet, does not have this dilemma. There is no transference. But the program survives by it. Look at the world we live in.

Think about all the people, all the 1’s that want to fix their lives, change their lives, find the truth, be enlightened and on and on and on, there are tens of millions of them. They’re all in transference. They’re not guided by what is correct. They are not motivated correctly. They do not have the intelligence. And yet, this is how the program survives. It’s spooky. This is how humanity stays homogenized because there is no unique intelligence behind the motivation; there isn’t. There is a homogenized flavor and nothing else.

Think about one of the things that I repeat endlessly. The only thing that really matters is that you honor your Strategy and Authority because that is the one thing that allows you to break the covenant with the program. It finally gives you the opportunity to separate yourself from the false dominion of your mind. In Human Design when you’re operating correctly from the physical plane, by giving authority over to your vehicle, you automatically gain the advantage of the cognition underneath. The great challenge in the mental part of Human Design is to get human beings to truly differentiate and to differentiate from the personality perspective, which means that the personality can no longer be in transference. It allows us to resonate to the consciousness field.

In essence, it goes back to our simplest and most basic roots, because to be your own authority literally means that you are the only thing that is your security, your protection. It is the very power of your uniqueness that gives you the decision making capacity to be able to protect yourself, to be able to survive.

(Post 112) Awakeness is about Seeing

The Solar Plexus for me today is an extraordinary thing because I see it. It’s not that I don’t feel it when someone is emotional and they’re “this” or “that”. I take it in. It’s not about not taking it in. But it’s not me; it’s just something I can see. And out of that has come so much wisdom about the nature of the Solar Plexus and the emotional system and emotional beings. How important it is for you to see that this openness, this so-called not-self, is a great observer when it is freed from the tension and pressure of decision making. And the seeing itself is so deeply enriching in this life. It is what awakenness is all about. It’s about seeing.

This basic duality in the chart is something that each and every one of you needs to grasp within yourself. There is your potential for wisdom. Wisdom is not in your Design. That is, it’s not in your definition. There is no wisdom in your definition unless you have a particularly wise line. It is your potential to be correct. And in that correctness, the potential of wisdom is in everything else that allows you to be an observer, an interactor with life itself. And it’s not just the centers that are about wisdom; it’s each and every one of those open gates and open channels that are there. The richness of what is available to your Personality is food for thought.

(Post 113) Strategy and Authority

Strategy and Authority is the basis of Design. But it’s not like there’s something else beyond that, the next step. No, everything is here. Truly everything, and that’s the point. It’s the whole thing to grasp. And it takes time. Oh, adults are deeply, deeply, deeply conditioned, living in a deeply, deeply, deeply conditioned world where everybody uses their mind all the time to make decisions. “What do you think? What are you going to do?”

But this is the only way to transform your life; this is the only way to begin the process of awakening. There is no other way. You can see that the moment you turn over to your Design consciousness its natural responsibility to guide the vehicle, there is immediately a resonance with the Monopole. They work together, driver and vehicle. When they’re working together, when there is correctness in that, then the passenger has a chance, has a chance to see that this an incredible life, a beautiful life, to see the beauty of oneself, to learn to love oneself. This is what it’s about, and it takes time; it’s a journey.

But no matter what you learn, no matter what I teach you, there’s only one thing in this knowledge that really matters, that you get to live out what is correct for you and you can only do that through your Strategy and your inner Authority. There is no other way.

(Post 114) The Monopole Creates the Illusion of the Vehicle

When you think about the Monopole, remember it’s almost camp to talk about life being an illusion. We all know that it is an interesting concept but my elbows are leaning on the desk right now. There is this solidity to this illusion that is quite impressive. But I do want you to think about this Monopole and how it pulls us together.

The Design Crystal and the Personality Crystal don’t make bodies, the Monopole does. The Monopole creates the illusion of the vehicle. And not only does the Monopole create the illusion of the vehicle, the Monopole creates the illusion of the wheel, of the zodiac, of the sky, of everything. It is Monopoles that hold everything together in the illusion. It holds the totality together in the illusion of its separateness, all the Monopoles.

(Post 115) Innocence: No Longer Being Caught in Comparison

It’s one of these things to puzzle over in terms of the 6th line beings and their off the-roof stage, this transcendence beyond observer/observed. What it really means is that one is no longer caught in comparison. It’s what it’s about. It’s what this innocence is all about, no longer being caught in comparison. There is no this or that, per se. It’s not a concern unless it has to be. After all, we are all tied to the rules of survival.

This consciousness field, think about the unbelievable number of neutrinos, the density of this vast, vast, vast neutrino ocean, and I mean, it’s an incredible ocean. In all the life on the planet, the unbelievable numbers of crystals of consciousness, all of them are being motivated, in that sense, through this process, this deep underlying thematic that is there defines our world and we came from it. In some senses we return to it.

Next week I start the DreamRave analysis program. Of course, when a human being goes to sleep most of the matrix is shut down, with the exception of the mammalian gates. Of course, it’s one of those things, how interesting it is to begin to understand the programming that we share with the natural world when we’re disconnected from our dysfunctional personality.

(Post 116) Self-Love

It is something that I understand so deeply about my own nature. I love myself. It is so obvious to me that that's the healthiest thing about me, because the moment you truly can embrace yourself, trust yourself, love yourself, you empower your immune system, you give it an empowerment that no medicine, no pill, no association; nothing else can do for it what your own self love does for that.

So, this is one of the themes that you have to see about our movement forward. It is out of this self-love, it is out of this deep commitment to ourselves—and that commitment obviously is one that includes dietary regimen and environment that isn't just simply about what we talk about in our work, cleaning the brain, making sure that we give our Uranian bodies as much of an opportunity to fulfill their complete process as possible, it's more than that. You‘re strengthening with each breath your immune system. And remember, if we don't do that for ourselves, they are simply going to get weaker and weaker and weaker.

(Post 117) Hexagram 6 conflict

We have the 6th gate in the channel of Mating, a design focused on reproduction: Conflict, the gate of friction. Its energy is the hope and pain wave of intimacy. Its potential is the awareness or, let us put it this way, the emotional wave whether to bond or not: the channel of intimacy. Understand how the wave works: the wave does not take you from one side of the line to the other. Don't confuse this. The emotional wave is not going to take you from the exalted to the detriment and back again. You will get that from meeting people who will have planets in those positions and are going to fix you in one end of the wave or the other. You have the transits that do that, as in any other process in the chart. The thing to recognize about the hope and pain wave, and I will illustrate that to you as we go through the lines, is that it operates in each part of the line. There is a hope and pain aspect to every part of these lines, whether we call them exalted or in detriment. The exalted will have a hope and pain wave and the detriment will have a hope and pain wave. It is not that the wave is going from one to the other. Don't confuse that.

The 6th gate is the gate of the pH in our biology and this is what establishes the barriers. If you look at the heading of the 6th gate in the Rave I'Ching, it says: The fundamental design component of progress. The law that growth cannot exist without friction. Remember, the other side, the 50th gate, is tribal law. Here in the 6th gate, we have biological law. Life, reproduction, cannot exist without friction, without this gate. There are many things in that. The 6th gate is the place where the motor sits. That is the motor that generates these six different waves. The thing to keep in mind about the nature of this gate is its mystical mystery because this law about growth is rooted in this wave. We would never be in an evolutionary field unless we were living in the emotional wave. The emotional wave is what makes the general field fertile and that fertility is not just about reproducing children. The emotional field is a fertile field. It can also be sterile. That is the other side.

The 6th gate carries within it this law that growth cannot exist without the motor. That is why, the moment somebody has the 6th gate and they step into your life, they dominate your frequency because they come with the power of that motor which stimulates growth. By the way, if you are not in resonance with that power it may do exactly the opposite. In other words, it can begin a process of decay that leads to friction and conflict in the mundane sense. It is very important to see that this gate has enormous power. It is a gate of fusion. It fuses feelings, moods and sensitivity, these three streams that move through the solar plex center.

In a sense, what you are really seeing is that out of the 6 and out of its motor come those three streams. They are born out of or grow out of this law of the 6th gate. What we call feelings or moods is rooted here. The key is that each line that I am about to take you through in the 6th gate resonates with a wave. Each line is, in that sense, the fundamental expression of each of these aspects of the wave. I like to think of them as six different gears and each of them are expressed in language in each of the lines in the 6th gate.

(Post 118) The 46th Gate

When you think about the 46th gate, I want you first and foremost look. If you look at the 46th gate and you look at the next seven gates that follow every single one of them is a gate of the splenic system, every single one of them is a gate of primal fear. If you think that we've had a rough opening eight gates when it comes to duality and if you think of that the Vessel is going to do any good, people really don't get what 46 is. It is the lead hexagram. It is the framer of all fear and all fear is in the body. Primary fear, survival fear, physical fear, the body, the 46th gate that what protects us, what makes us insecure, the 46th gate, and out of the 46th gate will emerge all the fears of authority, of the death, of failure, of the past, of tomorrow, of inadequacy, layer and layer of primary fears all out of the 46th gate, this nice gate of the Vessel of Love.

I like the 46th gate. I like any gate that talks about good fortune, I think that's nice. Good fortune that may be perceived as a result of serendipity, but derives from effort and dedication. In other words, success has nothing to do with anything other than it may show up while you're working. The whole thing is that the body keeps functioning and as long as the body keeps functioning there may be a moment that good fortune comes your way. And then again, it might not, but it's just about keeping the body functioning. What is good luck? No choice.

(Post 119) Positive Expectation

So, the heretic has a problem. It begins with the unconscious heretics, the 2/5s and the 3/5s. If I have profile empathy being a 5/1, I often wonder how 3/5s deal with it. I'm a very, very conscious being, the way my design is set up in that sense, I'm right there in the present. I'm very aware of what it is to be a Personality 5 and I know all the stuff that comes with it. And I always think about those 2/5s and 3/5s and they don't know that, because there's enormous pressure that comes with this. And the pressure that comes with this is the horror of positive expectation. No other line gets this.

Positive expectation—I want you to think about that. So, you’re a 5/1 and you come out of the womb and your mother looks at you and says, oh my God, he’s back on Earth, until you fart or spit or do something and then you immediately fall from grace. Think about what it is to be a 3/5. A 3/5 is a major league screw-up. The notself 3/5 is—you want to read all of their biographies, you just do because they’re going to be entertaining.

Because if you're a notself 3/5, you're going to make mistakes and you're going to make mistakes while people were expecting you not to. Somebody walks up to a 3/5 and their first assumption is here’s the one, the great neo-line, here’s the one. Oh, my heart goes out to 3/5s in that situation and they don't know any better—no Inner Authority, no protection. And there’s that person with all that expectation and all that “Oh, you’re going to be so good at this,” and they blow it because they’re going to blow it.

(Post 120) The Story of Saul

I’m going to tell you a story. I don't use honey. I don't use honey because I just don't like it. But, in my early years here I dealt with honey people, freaks drinking tea all the time, putting wads of this goo into it. And they would always ask if I wanted honey and I would say, no. I got tired of that, so I told them a great story. Ancient Israel; the Israelites were fighting the Philistines or somebody else and always killing each other; this is a story of Saul. He was going to be made the first king of the Jews. Saul had a son, Jonathan. And Jonathan had a friend who was David, who would eventually be the David of David and Goliath stories.

One morning, Jonathan, who led his father's warriors along with David, when running out with their warriors to go into battle against these people, they were going to sneak up to them in the early morning, and so forth and so on. This was a tribe that had been threatening them for a long time that was physically superior to them. They went through this battle plan of theirs and they were successful and they defeated the tribe.

It was far away from their base. But the prophet, Samuel, spooky guy, he immediately knew—mystical magic—he immediately knew that a great victory had been won. He went to Saul and said, “We have won today a great victory. There is to be no looting, there is to be no taking of treasure, there is to be no raping of women, and the men are not to eat. And they are not to eat for 24 hours to show their appreciation to God for giving them this great victory.” So the word goes out to the entire camp. Everybody is given the rules and instead of this huge celebration that would naturally have come, big bonfires, and all of that, everything was very calm, very somber, very subdued.

Meanwhile, out there in hinterland, the boys are running back from after their battle, coming back to the camp with their victory story. And as is the case of warriors who lead their men into battle, Jonathan, who had led his men into battle, is the last one coming back. These men have been running and fighting for over a day; they’re exhausted. They haven’t eaten and Jonathan is running along and he comes to a little brook and on the brook is a falling tree and in that fallen tree is a broken hive, and it's dripping with honey. Jonathan, as he is running all over that place, takes his hand and digs into the hive and grabs the honey and puts the honey in his mouth. It gives him energy, but the moment the honey touches his mouth, Samuel the prophet, this spooky guy, goes to Saul and says somebody has broken the fast and they shall die. It is the law.

Okay, so, the word goes out to everybody in the camp and everybody gets really nervous. “I didn't eat anything.” Nobody admits to eating anything and slowly the warriors start coming in from the battle. They come into this very somber, tense, anxious scene and all of them saying, “No, no we didn’t eat anything.” Finally at the very end comes Jonathan, the son of Saul, the hero of the battle, and he comes in, and he hears what's going on and he says, “It was me.” And Samuel says to Saul, such a theme, ancient theme, “Kill your son, it’s the law.” Samuel said, “How can it be the law if he didn't know?” Samuel said, “God’s law is God's law. The law has been broken.” Saul refused to kill his son. Samuel the prophet went into the tent of David and said, “I anoint thee king.” Saul went mad. Jonathan and David ended up going to war against each other.

(Post 121) No Absolutes

It's a very deep, profound force that drives us never, never to say “This is it.” That can be very difficult for some beings. This life force does not recognize absolutes. It does not. There is no such thing for this force; it‘s not possible. And “absolute” simply becomes another thing that can be worked over and over and over and over and over and over and over endlessly, parsed and broken down and reassessed. It‘s the magic. But if you're not correct, if you're not aware, that can be an extraordinary burden. It can leave you feeling that there is absolutely nothing in this life that you will ever be able to trust, no certainty that you will ever be able to accept, and no absolute that will ever give you wholeness. It‘s such a thing.

Remember, this is a general expression of a force. It‘s not about the nuance of how you live with it relative to your design, to the correctness of what it is to be you in this life, and so forth and so on. And it doesn't mean that if you are correct you cannot live with such a thing; you can, it is correct for you. But it is to begin to see, because of the very nature of this force, that if you don't accept it for what it is, the beauty of what it is, it becomes your curse. It becomes a weight and a burden. It becomes so difficult to dream, and I mean dream in the sense of the fantasy of what's possible or what could be.
