1.0 EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

 

City of Harare, popularly referred to as the Sunshine City, is the capital of Zimbabwe with an estimated population of more than two million. City of Harare is the hub of economic activities and innovation in the country leading in financial, commercial, industrial and Information Communication Technology. It therefore follows that the Local Authority must provide services that promote and sustain economic growth.

 

Infrastructure and innovation has been identified as the key enablers of the economic growth across the globe and the City has an important role in ensuring such is provided. More so, the new thrust in Zimbabwe of creating “Smart Cities” is making a distinct foothold in competing for investment in the global arena and the pivotal role the capital city ought to play cannot be underestimated.

 

The major objective of this business and investment opportunities prospectus is to attract capital investment on identified projects within the city of Harare jurisdiction. Harare has embraced the new national economic discourse to open up business and actualize the vision, Harare to become World Class City by 2025.

 

The city is adorned with different investment opportunities within its purview that potential investors can pursue on PPP arrangements. These include but not limited to:

· Infrastructure Development in modern malls, schools, street lighting, multi-purpose buildings and bus termini.

· Health sector new clinics, council pharmacies and city radiological services.

· Council Farms – animal husbandry, Horticulture and/ Market Gardening, Floriculture and Fruit Production

Smart Cities require modern infrastructure anchored with new technologies within and outside CBDs. Most of Harare City’s infrastructure was built pre-independence era and is now in dire need of regeneration as the capacity has been overtaken by population growth, population interests, increased business activities and changes in technologies.
